The peer-reviewed Medical Clinics of North America concluded last year that antibiotics in livestock feed were “a major component” in the rise in antibiotic resistance. The article said that more antibiotics were fed to animals in North Carolina alone than were administered to the nation’s entire human population.

“We don’t give antibiotics to healthy humans,” said Robert Martin, who led a Pew Commission on industrial farming that examined antibiotic use. “So why give them to healthy animals just so we can keep them in crowded and unsanitary conditions?”

    Ok, I don’t feel like writing much.
    But, hormones and antibiotics go hand in hand because cows get certain skin “disorders” from hormone treatment (yes there are also other reasons why antibiotics are being used)

    The entire discussion about health benefits from “organic” foods is largely about semantics.

    It is absolutely scientifically proven that organic foods have less pesticides and other chemicals.
    It is also proven that pesticides have a huge impact on our health; and one way of absorbing these chemicals is through food. (see various medical journals for recently published studies with very convincing data on this)

    now whether organic food has more nutrients then conventional food is another discussion and that’s where the confusion starts. And mainstream media (yes cnn’s Gupta) doesn’t make a clear distinction between these two issues.

    Also, regular agriculture is not necessarily more sustainable than the organic industry, but let ‘s not get into this.

    more nutrients in organic food, in certain instances yes, but remains to be proven.
    Ps:
    If you need a phD in medical research to sign off on this i’ll go and wake up my wife 🙂 but then you’ll owe me one.

    but don’t trust “der spiegel”, “le monde” “cnn” or whatnot on these issues cause they get their info from the “fda”
